Admistrative Board Member Gerassimos Spathis

Professor Gerassimos Spathis was Head of the Section of Mechanics, School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He has also served as Dean of the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences (2000-2006), Vice Rector of the NTUA (2006-2010) and General Secretary for Lifelong Learning.

He graduated from the Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Athens, and proceeded with postgraduate studies in the Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Sussex, which also granted him a Doctor’s Diploma in the area of Theoretical Physics (1975).

He has worked in the European Department of Statistic Distribution of Nuclear Fuels, and since 1980 when he was appointed Lecturer at the NTUA, he has been teaching various graduate and postgraduate courses and supervised doctoral and masters’ theses.  

His research interest lies with the area of Mechanics and Physics of polymers and polymeric composite materials, in terms of theoretical and experimental analysis. He has written 85 research papers which were published in international journals and conference proceedings, while citations to his work exceed 800.
